Story
This year I’ll be running the 21.1km half marathon at the Perth Running Festival to raise money for the Alopecia Areata Foundation — a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
For most of my life, I’ve lived with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss when the body attacks its own hair follicles. My journey began at 7 years old with small bald patches, eventually progressing to alopecia totalis, where I lost the hair on my head, and later alopecia universalis, where I lost every hair on my body.
Over the years, I’ve tried countless treatments, medications, wigs, and headbands, all while learning how to navigate something that deeply affected my confidence growing up. While it has been a long and emotional journey at times, it has also taught me resilience, self-acceptance, and that beauty and identity are so much more than hair.
Running this half marathon is more than just a personal challenge for me, it’s an opportunity to raise awareness, support others experiencing alopecia, and give back to a community that understands the journey.
Any support, whether it’s a donation, sharing this post, or simply cheering me on, would mean so much to me. Thank you 🤍
